More and more camping enthusiasts want to make their travel adventures more sustainable and environmentally friendly. A series of simple measures can already achieve a great deal. These include loading the vehicle moderately, driving in a fuel-efficient way, choosing environmentally friendly campsites or avoiding waste (see tips below.)
There is also plenty that can be optimised on the technical side. After all, motorhomes and camper vans need electricity – e.g. for the refrigerator, heating, lighting, infotainment, air conditioning and much more. Hymer solar installations use the power of the sun for this purpose. This not only saves you the need for an external power supply: it also makes you significantly more independent when travelling.
The Hymer Smart Battery System is the ideal addition to a Hymer solar installation, as it stores the electricity generated by the solar installation efficiently. The Smart Battery System supplements the conventional lead-acid battery with several lithium batteries. The result is significantly greater performance, greater efficiency (up to 80%) and a longer service life for the overall system.
The solar installation generates electricity, while the Smart Battery System stores it. Together, they reduce dependence on an external power supply and can provide onboard electrical independence for up to 10 days.
In a whole range of Hymer models, solar installations and the Smart Battery System are already fitted as standard. However, both systems are also available for retrofitting.
Reduce the total weight of the motorhome: Which luggage and supplies really need to come along?
Empty the waste water tank before departure and fill the water tank only minimally.
Drive with foresight at as constant a speed as possible. Change gear early. Avoid frequent braking or acceleration.
Ensure optimum tyre pressure and use the air conditioning in moderation.
Use resources sparingly (e.g. water for showering and washing up).
Avoid waste and dispose of it correctly.
Use a bicycle locally.
Choose campsites that provide transparent information about their environmental measures, for example those participating in the ECOCAMPING initiative.
